The expense associated with conversion hinges on several factors such as the make and model of the car, the intricacy of the conversion and the specific components employed. While conversion costs can be substantial, they are frequently offset by the prospect of long term savings in operational expenditures.

This year in 2022 we’ve seen the arrival of the Volkswagen ID.5 and ID.3 GTX, Volvo’s eagerly anticipated C40 and the Nissan Ariya. Looking a bit further ahead and there’s the Skoda Enyaq Coupe, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and Toyota bZ4X. There’s also the hotly-anticipated Hyundai Ioniq 6, Renault Megane E-Tech Electric and the upcoming Polestar 3, plus many more electric models due to land in showrooms.

Starting at just under £37,000, the Ioniq 5 features a superb infotainment system and generous standard kit, while the available space has to be seen to be believed. It’s comfortable, too, so you’ll relish the chance of racking up the miles. We certainly did, which is why we named the Hyundai Ioniq 5 our Car of the Year for 2021. The Kia EV6 is the sister vehicle to the Hyundai Ioniq 5, so it’s a great pick if you love that model’s technology, but aren’t quite as sold on its retro-futuristic looks. The EV6 is arguably the more conventional of the two, and it’s a bit lower and more sporting. This is reflected in its handling, with slightly firmer suspension offering sharper responses. It’s offered in Long Range RWD, Long Range AWD and a high-performance GT version, and the entry-level version is our favourite. It not only offers the best range figure of up to 328 miles from its 77.4kWh battery, but we also found its 7.2-second 0-62mph time to be quick enough.

The Audi Q4 e-tron uses the same underpinnings as the Skoda Enyaq iV and the Volkswagen ID.4, so it has an impressive range of up to 316 miles and 125kW rapid-charging. This also means it’s Audi’s most affordable electric car at the moment, and it makes a great family car because it’s spacious inside and comfortable to drive. The Q4 e-tron’s interior is as upmarket as you’d expect from an Audi, and it’s more user-friendly than the ID.4’s cabin as well, without losing out on the amount of technology available. There’s lots of rear leg and headroom, even for adults, and a big boot. The Audi isn’t as good value as the Skoda, but if you want something a bit more upmarket, the Q4 e-tron is a great option. There’s more pressure than ever to consider an electric car – not just through rising fuel costs and concerns around road pricing and city-centre emissions zones. Culturally owning an electric car is becoming a more mainstream way of signalling affluence, environmental responsibility and awareness. There’s even a counter-cultural reaction from fans of petrol and diesel familiarity. The reality is that the best electric cars provide a perfectly sensible means of transport for most drivers and their families, once new habits are learned.

With everything from superminis and small SUVs to executive saloons and luxury SUVs to choose from, there should be an electric car to meet the needs of most buyers. Electric cars tend to be heavier than petrol and diesel models, which means they can feel less nimble on twisty roads, but there are a whole host of benefits to the way they drive that many people will find preferable. For a start you get near-silent cruising with next-to-no sound from the electric motors. In traffic, the car slows itself when you lift off the throttle, so it’s possible to drive around town using just one pedal, hardly ever touching the brake. It all makes for a very relaxed experience, yet the instant torque provided by the electric motor means that even everyday EVs have the potential to leave a hot hatch standing when pulling away from the traffic lights and in some cases, supercars too.

Bridging the Gap: A Timeless Blend – They say that old habits die hard, but in the world of classic cars, old habits are getting an electrifying makeover. Electric classic cars are the epitome of the phrase “old is gold.” These vehicles, known for their timeless appeal, are taking a bold step into the future without losing their vintage charm. Classic Cars Meet Modern Innovation – Picture this: You’re behind the wheel of a beautifully restored classic car, cruising down a winding road, and enjoying the symphony of its roaring engine. Now, imagine that roar being replaced by a serene hum, and the vehicle gliding effortlessly forward with instant torque—this is the magic of electric classic cars.
